Everyone remembers those uncomfortable molded-plastic chairs from school.  These were saved from a scrap-yard in North Kansas City and combined with a piece of live-edge Elm that was saved from a burn pile in southwest Johnson County.

The process started, as many wood projects do, at Tom the Sawyer’s mill and moved to the action-packed process of letting wood air dry.  Meanwhile a quick trip to a North Kansas City scrap yard and we found some chairs to provide the legs to our table.

Elm has an incredible beauty that is often overlooked.  The grain pattern really pops even after a single coat of finish.

The new piece will live on as a plant table in the warm sunlight of a southern-facing window.
