This table was made from a pile of barn wood bound for a dumpster in southwest Johnson County.  A friend alerted me to the pile by the roadside and a few hours later, we were elbows deep in wood, pulling out a hundred years’ worth of rusty nails.  The project was for a client that wanted something with character for their kitchen.  They loved the cracks and character associated with the re-claimed wood and so we set off constructing a classic table with bread-board ends.

We wanted something that preserved the hard-earned character of the wood, but matched the interior of the home so we filled the cracks and nail holes with a dark-colored epoxy and finished the table in Danish Oil giving it a rich dark color.

To save the client money we reused the base to their old kitchen table and mounted the newly finished top.  We love to give new life to old things.  As an aside we salvaged the old cherry wood top and it is awaiting re-purposing on a new project.
